Hopkins Communications is ‘in the running’ for the national Public Relations Institute of Ireland Awards for Excellence in PR, with their 2017 Campaign for the Cork City Marathon entitled ‘More than a Marathon’.

Monday, 14th May 2018: On Friday last, Cork-based family-run marketing communications agency, Hopkins Communications, rang the good-news bell to deliver that ‘Friday feeling’ to their staff. They were informed by the Public Relations Institute of Ireland (PRII) that they had been shortlisted for the 2018 Award for Excellence in Public Relations.

The Awards for Excellence in Public Relations is the beacon for best practice in Irish public relations and communications. Award winners set the benchmark for work within the PR sector and showcase the best the profession has to offer. Hopkins Communications 2017 Irish Examiner Cork City Marathon, ‘More than a Marathon’ campaign, implemented on behalf of Cork City Council, was submitted in the category Best PR For An Event. Only two Cork-based agencies were shortlisted for these prestigious awards, which showcase the best the PR profession has to offer.

For the shortlisted campaign, Hopkins Communications worked with Cork City Council to position the 2017 Irish Examiner Cork City Marathon as ‘More than a Marathon’ and to promote and drive entries to this momentous race by utilising a strong integrated PR and Social Media campaign which sought to inspire and join participants on their marathon journey. The word marathon can be off-putting for recreational runners, but the Irish Examiner Cork City Marathon has worked hard to keep inclusivity as a key objective and has race categories to suit all levels with Full, Half Marathon, Team Relay and Youth Challenge options available. It was the task of Hopkins Communications to ensure potential participants saw past the event name and positioned the Cork City Marathon as more than a marathon.

Director and Partner at Hopkins Communications, Judy Hopkins, who heads up the PR, Events and Digital departments at the agency, expressed her pride in having her team recognised in these prestigious industry awards:

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been shortlisted for one of these coveted awards. This national award shortlisting just proves that Hopkins Communications and our team is ‘More than an Agency’ and that all the hard work on our ‘More than a Marathon’ campaign for Cork City Council has been recognised. Being acknowledged by the Public Relations Institute of Ireland and the Public Relations Consultants Association (Ireland) is something we are very proud of and of course we are going to shout about it. We are excited to continue to work with our portfolio of amazing clients to hopefully roll out many more award worthy campaigns.”

“The Hopkins Communications family has grown in the last number of years and seeing the progression of the company there is no doubt that fresh faces with bright ideas, along with our dedicated long-standing staff members, topped off with a creative, friendly and fun work environment, is the magic potion for success. I have to say that this is without a doubt the strongest team we have had in a long time and awards such as this are testament to them all. The PR, digital and design team (with considerable merit going to Senior PR Account Manager, Fiona Ryan and Digital Account Manager, Syrena Long) really put their heart and soul into this campaign. Also, it cannot go unnoticed that it would not have been possible to deliver such a successful campaign without the team at Cork City Council, with special mention to Event Co-Ordinator Gina Johnson and Race Director Jim O’Donovan. We are already in full swing for the 2018 campaign and are enjoying it just as much as we did last year. We are very proud to be among such a high standard of PR professionals and would like to congratulate and wish luck to all nominees.”
